Dastan Karbala Ka Waqia
"Dastan Karbala Ka Waqia" refers to the story of the Battle of Karbala, a significant event in Islamic history. It occurred on the 10th day of Muharram in the year 61 AH (680 CE). The battle took place between a small group of supporters and family members of Prophet Muhammad's grandson, Imam Husayn ibn Ali, and the larger military forces of the Umayyad caliph Yazid I.
Imam Husayn and his companions, numbering around 72, faced a much larger army sent by Yazid to intercept him in Karbala (in modern-day Iraq). Despite being vastly outnumbered and surrounded, Imam Husayn and his followers refused to pledge allegiance to Yazid, viewing his rule as unjust and corrupt. They stood firm in their principles of justice, truth, and upholding the teachings of Islam.
The battle culminated tragically in the martyrdom of Imam Husayn, his family members, and his companions, including children and infants. The event is mourned annually by Muslims during the month of Muharram, particularly on the 10th day known as Ashura, through rituals of remembrance and mourning. This event holds deep significance for Shia Muslims in particular, symbolizing resistance against tyranny and oppression, and the ultimate sacrifice for righteousness.
